Robert Micks MD, FRCPI

Robert Micks MD was born on the 30th of December 1895 in Killiney, County Dublin. His father, William Lawsom Mick was Welsh and his mother, Emma Isabel Meyrick was born in Blessington. Little is known about Robert Micks MD in comparison to many of the other Doctors in this catalogue. Dr Robert Micks was a Fellow of the RCPI. He worked as a physician in Sir Patrick Dun’s Hospital and a Consultant Physician at the Royal Victoria Eye and Ear Hospital in Dublin and Teac Ultain, a hospital for infants under a year old who are suffering from non-infectious diseases. It was located at 37 Charlemont Street. He was elected as the ninth King’s Professor of Materia Medica and Pharmacy, TCD in 1945, being the last person to hold this position before the name was changed to Professors of Pharmacology. 

Micks published an “Approach to Clinical Medicine” in 1955 which is 135 pages and he also published “The Essentials of Materia Medica, Pharmacology and Therapeutics” in 1935, which is 395 pages in length. In 1959, he republished a revised and expanded edition of the original “The Essentials of Materia Medica, Pharmacology and Therapeutics”, now standing at 432 pages.

He married Fanny Geraldine Townsend MacFetridge in 1940, and she lived until 2006. Dr. Robert Micks died on the 9th of February, 1970 at Merlyn Park, in Dublin. He is buried in Deansgrange cemetery in Blackrock, County Dublin
