John Crampton MD, FRCPI
Elected 21st of July, 1804.

Not much is known about John Crampton who was elected as the third King’s Professor of Materia Medica and Pharmacy in 1804. He held the position until his death in 1840, giving him a long tenure of 36 years. As Kings’ Professor of Materia Medica and Pharmacy he was heavily involved in mentoring and tutoring younger physicians. One such student was Dominic Corrigan who he provided a letter of reference for stating that he was “fully competent to undertake the care of any public medical establishment". He also served as Assistant Physician to Dr William Harvey at Dr. Steevens Hospital in Dublin where he published a paper entitled “Rupture of the Stomach and Escape of its Contents” until Dr Harvey's death in 1819. Following Harvey’s death he became Physician of Dr. Steevens Hospital.
