Edmund Cullen MD, FRCPI
Elected 5th of April, 1786.
Little is known about the early life of Dr. Edmund Cullen. Cullen entered Trinity College Dublin in 1767, became a scholar in 1770 and graduated BA in 1772. He then studied in Scotland, earning an MD from the University of Edinburgh in 1781. He became a Fellow of the RCPI in 1782. He was also awarded an MB and MD by Trinity College in 1793. He was appointed as the second King’s Professor of Materia Medica and Pharmacy in 1786. He also served as Physician to Meath Hospital from 1786 to 1787 and as President of the RCPI three times, in 1787, 1794 and briefly in 1799, resigning shortly after his election. He is known for his work of translating “Torbern Bergman’s Physical and Chemical Essays” from Latin.
Cullen died in 1804.
